Happy Birthday Paul!

Paul turned 1 on October 19th.  We had a party for him on Oct 16th with friends and family.  The weather was great for a BBQ.  My mom and dad were able to come from Virginia.  They came the week before Paul's birthday and that ended up being the perfect time.  Paul was taking about 3 steps when they got here, but by the time they left, he was walking all over and even trying to run.

We did a Curious George birthday party.  The monkey theme has been a constent since I was pregnant with Paul.  Curious George was John's favorite character when he was a boy.  I had saved the cake decorations from the baby shower my work gave me and it happened to be Curious George.  We put those back on his 1 year cake.

The plan was have the BBQ, then birthday cake and presents.  I couldn't get Paul down for his afternoon nap before everyone arrived, so we changed things around.  We gave Paul his cake first and let him open presents.  Afterwards I layed him down for this nap and we ate while he slept and then he joined up for our cake and ice-cream.  He was so funny with his own cake.  He put his fingers into the icing and then he didn't like the icing messing up his hand so we had to clean if off his hand.  He never touched the cake again.  I fed him a bite of cake then then he was done.  So no cake smash or mess...darn :).

He didn't understand the gift part.  When he finally got the hang of unwrapping the presents, we wanted to play with them, but we would take it away and he would chase the present.  It was real funny.  By the end he got tired of opening presents.  He loved all the presents and when he got up from his nap, he played with all of them.  He got a neat present from his sister Amanda.  She went to all the trouble to sew him a textured cube and some play rings.  He got a driving toy by grandparents.  A interactive riding horse from this other grandparents.  Books, shoes, bank and misc items from his Aunt, Uncle, & Cousin.  A really neat leap pad bear that was programed with Paul's name, favorite colors and foods.  A ball popper from his other Aunt, Uncle & Cousins.  Thanks everyone from all the wonderful gifts!

It was a great day and so nice spending it with family & friends.
Happy Birthday Paul.
